Serendipity!!!

Good Morning, Fellow Foodies!  I hope that this past week has been good to each and every one of you.  This past week has been a great one for me as I celebrated  my birthday (sorry, no age disclosed at this time) in Las Vegas.  I know that the first thing people think about when you say Las Vegas is gambling.  Well, the one thing I always look forward to when going there is eating.  Las Vegas has some of the best restaurants and eateries you will ever visit.  Now, it's been a few years since I've been there.  And once again, every single meal that I ate was very good.  One place in particular was quite impressive; so amazing in fact that I had to eat there twice in three days.  What's the name of this amazing establishment?  It is called Serendipity 3.

Serendipity 3 was founded in 1954 by a gentleman named Stephen Bruce.  Its first location, was established in Manhattan in its Upper East Side.  When you first read the menu, it shocks you in many different ways.  First off, the menu is the size of newspaper!  The menu is mainly in black and white and features many little drawings and designs that made me fixate on every aspect of the menu.  While in doing that, it allowed me the opportunity to view everything the menu had to offer.  And again, it was an extensive menu.

The restaurant features a wide variety of foods.  They offer salads, pastas, appetizers, crepes, seafood options, chicken, steaks, omelettes, sandwiches, and of course desserts.  Some of the items that I have tasted include the T-BLT (A turkey sandwich with a second layer that is a BLT), a foot long hot dog that is quite impressive, and a spicy black bean burger called The Alamo (San Antonio, represent!).  Now there are two items that I tasted that I will never forget.  One is an average item and the other is rather unique.  But based on how my taste buds reacted, I consider these two items to be the best appetizer and best dessert I have ever had the pleasure of tasting!

First, there are their buffalo wings.  Yes, I said buffalo wings.  Just regular buffalo wings served with bleu cheese dressing and the usual accompaniment of celery and carrot sticks.   When the plate was brought to my table, I saw this beautiful presentation of bright red/orange wings on a narrow white rectangular dish.  The plate was placed on my table and immediately I felt its aura around me.  Notice how I did not say that the spicy vapors hurt my eyes and nose.  It wasn't like that.  The smell of the wings danced along my nose.  It was so memorable!  The wings were plump and delicious to the eyes.  I couldn't wait and I began to eat the wings.  The wings were perfectly baked and sauced.  The sauce was definitely the key to these wings.  It was the PERFECT blend of spicy and flavor.  I don't know about you, but I personally hate it when something is so spicy that it has no flavor and it just turns into a punishment, rather than a pleasurable eating experience.  I know licking your fingers is considered very disrespectful at the table, but to waste all that flavor by wiping it on the hot wet napkins that the restaurant provides you would be sacrilege!  Oh, and the one thing I did appreciate about the wings was that they didn't bite back later.  You know what I mean.  ;)

Once I finished my meal, it was time for the mother ship of all desserts:  The Frozen Hot Chocolate!  Built in two sizes for those who can and cannot share, this behemoth of a dessert is the perfect blend of chocolate, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings.  Now, I want to caution everyone:  This is NOT a chocolate milkshake.  It is a FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE.  You can either enjoy it quickly with a straw, or make the experience last with a spoon.  Or, you can use both like I do.  It is hard to describe the chocolate itself because again it is not ice cream or a milkshake.  Truly, its title is the best way to describe it.  Aside from its name, the hook to me is again the perfect blend of its ingredients in a beautifully simple package.

The menu is definitely a little more pricey than what you would pay at other establishments, but it is worth every penny.  It is well worth paying for the quality of food that you get.  And don't worry, the service matches the food.  The two times I went in Vegas this past week I had two different servers who did a FANTASTIC JOB of taking care of me.  They were prompt, courteous, and polite.  And for that, 25% is what they deserve!

Serendipity 3 has so many more delicious items for you to try.  Check out their website at http://www.serendipity3.com/ to see more of what they offer.  If you ever find yourself in Boca Raton, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, or Manhattan; PLEASE take the time to give Serendipity 3 a look and a taste.  I assure you that your senses will thank you for it!
